Patton Oswalt in Talks for Walter Mitty

EXCLUSIVE: Coming off the best reviews of his feature career in ?Young Adult,? Patton Oswalt is in negotiations to join fellow comedy stars Ben Stiller and Kristen Wiig in 20th Century Fox?s ?The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.?

Stiller is directing the long-gestating remake of the 1947 Danny Kaye film, which itself was based on the James Thurber short story that was first published in The New Yorker in 1939.

Stiller stars as the title character, a timid daydreamer who works at LIFE Magazine, where he develops photos of other people?s adventures rather than living his own. He finds himself having to play the hero when he?s tasked with finding a missing negative. Wiig co-stars as the co-worker he lusts after, while Shirley MacLaine will play Stiller?s mother.

Oswalt will play Todd, a friendly eHarmony counselor who helps the protag create an online dating profile.

Stiller is producing ?Walter Mitty? with his Red Hour Entertainment partner Stuart Cornfeld, as well as John Goldwyn and Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Production is skedded to start in April.

Oswalt, who currently stars opposite Charlize Theron in Jason Reitman?s ?Young Adult,? will next be seen in supporting roles in Stephen Sommers? adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel ?Odd Thomas,? as well as Focus Features? Steve Carell-Keira Knightley pic ?Seeking a Friend for the End of the World.? Thesp also stars in an untitled boy scout pic from writer-director Todd Rohal that pairs him with Johnny Knoxville, Rob Riggle and Maura Tierney.
